ABD AL-ILAH: (1913-1958) Also known as Abd al Ilah of Hejaz. Abd al-Ilah served as Regent for Faisal II 1939-53. Cousin and brother in law of King Ghazi of Iraq, he held the title of Crown Prince of Iraq from 1953. Assassinated. Rare bold blue ink signature `Abd-al-Illah«, beneath a second signature also in his hand in Arabic, to a small oblong 8vo page removed from an autograph album. The document bears a small 2.5 x 1 clipped piece, lightly affixed to the upper left corner, with a collector annotation indicating that the autograph was obtained on 11th August 1945. To the verso showing another autograph. VG £150-200 Abd al-Ilah was killed along with the rest of the Royal family in the July 1958 Revolution, all machine-gunned by their captors who leaded the coup, ending with the Hashemite monarchy in Iraq. His body was mutilated, dragged across the streets of Baghdad, and partially burnt.
