ISABELLA I OF CASTILE: (1451-1504) Queen of Castile 1474-1504. Catholic Monarch who ruled jointly with her husband Ferdinand II of Aragon as The Catholic Monarchs 1475-1504. They are recognized for laying the foundations for the political unification of Spain, and also for completing the Reconquista as well as their support and financing of Christopher Columbus« voyage of 1492 which led to the opening of the New World. An exceptional manuscript letter, dated in 1492, only two months after the discovery of America, signed by the Queen `Yo la Reyna«, one page, oblong 9 x 7, Barcelona, 20th December 1492, to Alonso Ramirez de Villaescusa, in old Castilian. The Queen states `..My Royal representative in the town of Valladolid, you already know that I sent you an order to approach Don Diego de Ziga in order that he attends his wife Beatriz Brana and have her back in his house and company. I have since then learned that although I sent an order, when I was present in the city of Valladolid, saying that he has to separate from Leonor de Riao and receive back his wife, he has not done so, and do not take in charge his wife maintenance.« The Queen further reiterates her order stating `I order you to attend to this with all diligence and grant that Don Diego complies with what I have ordered, and that he treats well his said wife, supports her and gives her all necessary for her maintenance, as he is obliged to do as a Christian.« Before concluding Queen Isabella I sends a threat `Assure him that otherwise I will be angered and will order that the matter be remedied as may be just.« Countersigned by Juan de la Parra. Folded. Small area of paper loss to the right edge, as a result of the letter opening, not affecting the text or signature. VG £4000-6000 Alonso Ramirez de Villaescusa (1450-?) Royal Corregidor of the Kingdom, was a converted Jew and author of the 1493 work ''Espejo de corregidores y jueces'' a manual for corregidores and judges.
