BEAUHARNAIS HORTENSE DE: (1783-1837) Queen consort of Holland as spouse of Louis Bonaparte. Daughter of Josephine de Beauharnais, stepdaughter of Emperor Napoleon I and mother of Emperor Napoleon III. Unusual L.S., `approved Hortense«, with annotations in her hand, one page, 4to, n.p., [Arenenberg], n.d., [1829-30], in French. The document written by her squire and close attendant to the former Queen, Michel Moisson de Vaux, is entitled `Budget of Madame the Duchess of St. Leu for the year 1830« and lists fifteen names with the pensions approved by Hortense de Beauharnais. The list includes her loyal Abbot Bertrand, her chaplain, with a pension twice higher than any other member on the list, Elise de Courtain, her secretary, Viellard her counsellor, Madame Bure the Prince«s former housekeeper, etc.. Hortense de Beauharnais adds in her hand three more names, amends several amounts and the total budget amount which she also repeats in full letters. With a very small area of paper loss to the upper edge, only very slightly affecting a word of the title. G £400-600
