PASTEUR LOUIS: (1822-1895) French Chemist & Microbiologist. A good A.L.S., L. Pasteur, Member of the Institute, one page, 4to, Paris, 30th December 1873, to the French Naval Minister, Admiral Pothuau, in French. In a very respectful way, but even so reminding his correspondent what he was granted by the Emperor, Pasteur states `I have the honour to enclose to you notes referring to my works. I take this occasion and the liberty to tell you that on July 19th 1869, at the Palace of St. Cloud and during the Council of Ministers, the Emperor himself proposed to grant me a National reward as gratefulness for my services given to Science and industry. The war and its fatal consequences stopped the approval of the projectÉ« Pasteur further says `I have to remind you that I was included in the list of appointed senators on 27th July 1870. Mr. Thiers, at the time he left power, was about to fulfil the Emperor«s wish..« A letter of very good content. With two very small repairs to the verso, otherwise VG £800-1000
