AROSEV ALEXANDER: (1890-1938) Russian Writer and Diplomat. Former communist Revolutionary, appointed Commandant of the military revolutionary Committee in Moscow after the 1917 Revolution. Since 1934 President of the VOKS. A.Q.S., Aroseff, one page, oblong 8vo, n.p., n.d.[26th October 1925?], in French. Arosev states `We must be as simple as possible, like the nature or like death«. Written in light blue ink. G £150-200 VOKS was an entity created by the government of the Soviet Union in 1925 to promote international cultural contact between writers, composers, artists, scientists, and athletes of the USSR with those of other countries. The leading figure in VOKS from the time of its establishment until 1930 was Olga Kameneva, the sister of Leon Trotsky and wife of Soviet leader Kamenev. It has been reported about Arosev«s close relationship to Joseph Stalin's right-hand man, Vyacheslav Molotov and that he would run afoul of the secret police in 1937 during the Terror of 1937-38.
