DAVIDSON JO: (1883-1952) American sculptor. A.L.S., Jo Davidson, two pages (separate leaves), 4to, Rue Leconte-de-Lisle, Paris, 14th November 1929, to Mrs [Gertrude Vanderbilt] Whitney. Davidson informs his correspondent that her marble group Le Baiser is complete and will shortly be packed and delivered to her in New York, remarking 'You see: I have not been very far off when I said I would finish it for you in three months, for I only took double the time. However I think it was worth it and I hope that you'll feel the same way I do about it when you see it', and further enquiring 'How is my bronze ''Pete''? I am sure he is happy in your garden and I hope that you enjoy having him there' and concluding by referring to his future plans and work, '….I have a job in London so I will not be over until the spring. The work I have to do in London rather fascinates me as I am going to do the busts of Wells, Bennett, Doyle etc., some ten of the outstanding literary figures of Great Britain'. A letter of good association. Some overall creasing and a few large tears to the edges (mainly to the second page), only very slightly affecting the text. G Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney (1875-1942) American sculptor, art patron and collector, a prominent social figure and hostess who founded the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City in 1931.
