MONTGOMERY B. L.: (1887-1976) British Field Marshal of World War II. T.L.S., Montgomery of Alamein, one page, 8vo, Isington Mill, Alton, Hampshire, 15th July 1959, to Arthur Allighan of Walt Disney Productions Ltd. in London. Montgomery thanks his correspondent for their kind invitation, although is unable to accept for the 29th July, however continuing to remark 'But on the evening of Thursday 30th July I have to be in London for a dinner and I would like to send to see the film a young Swiss boy (age 14) who will be staying with me. My chauffeur would be with him - total 2 persons. Can you let me have two good seats for the evening performance
..At what time would it begin?' and concluding 'If they report well on the film, I would come and see it myself at a later date'. Some very light, minimal creasing, VG Lucien Trueb (1934- ) Swiss science writer who, as a twelve year old boy in 1946, met Montgomery in Switzerland and went on to maintain a close relationship with the Field Marshal. The film to which Montgomery was invited was Walt Disney's animated musical fantasy film Sleeping Beauty which received its European premiere on 29th July 1959.
