CONANT JAMES B.: (1893-1978) American chemist, a leading member of the Manhattan Project, involved in its administration at the highest levels. An excellent T.L.S., J. B. Conant, one page, 4to, Cambridge, Massachusetts, 19th September 1945m to Lieutenant Colonel Whitney Ashbridge, on the printed stationery of Harvard University. Conant thanks his correspondent for their most welcome note and their congratulations, remarking 'The bomb was indeed better than some of us had anticipated in the days when you and I used to gather at Los Alamos' and concluding 'Hoping that our paths will cross sometime in the not too distant future'.
