STALIN JOSEPH: (1878-1953)

‘I obey with pleasure’

STALIN JOSEPH: (1878-1953) Soviet politician and revolutionary who led the Soviet Union from 1924-53 as General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (1922-52) and Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Soviet Union (1941-53) & STALINA SVETLANA (1926-2011) Soviet writer and lecturer, the youngest child and only daughter of Joseph Stalin. An amusing A.L.S., Setanka, by Stalin's young daughter, one page, small 8vo, n.p., 20th May 1937, in Cyrillic. Svetlana's playful letter, written in bold red and blue indelible pencil, takes the form of an 'official secret order' issued to her father, 'I order you to go to the cinema with Comrades Molotov, Kaganovich, Zhdanov, Vaska and me. (Go to the cinema by all means today)', and features a small hand-drawn seal incorporating a red star at the conclusion. Joseph Stalin responds at the foot of the page, with an A.N.S., J Stalin, in Cyrillic, writing in blue indelible pencil, 'I obey with pleasure'. A rare and unusually light-hearted example of Stalin's autograph. Very slightly irregularly torn to the upper edge, the page evidently having been removed from a perforated notepad. VG
