GENET JEAN: (1910-1986) French Novelist, Playwright, and political Activist. A curious A.L.S., `Jean Genet´, one page, 8vo, Brighton, n.d. [1975], on the printed stationery of the Royal Albion Hotel of Brighton, to Edmonde Charles-Roux, in French. Genet asked his friend Edmonde to introduce “Jacky” to Prince Volpi and to some other important persons who could help promoting the racing Driver career of Jacques Maglia, and lists in this letter his prize list, stating `Chère amie, voici, jusqu´à present, le Palmares Maglia! 2º Nurburgring, 8º Monza, 2º Lac de Garde, 1º Chimoy. Vous allez bien? Jacky et moi on vous embrasse´ (Translation: “Dear friend, her you have, till today´s date, the prize list of Maglia! 2º Nurburgring, 8º Monza, 2º Lac de Garde, 1º Chimoy. Are you well? Jacky and I send you a hug”) EX
Jacques Maglia, “Jacky”, was the stepson of Genet's lover Lucien Senemand. Genet, in his way, loved Jacky Maglia. He was often attracted to delinquents or petty criminals, and Jacky stole cars. Genet actively encouraged Jacky to take up motor racing and later managed his fledging career. They grew very close, travelling widely together.
