MAGRITTE RENE: (1898-1967) Belgian surrealist artist. A.L.S., Rene, two pages, 8vo, Rue des Mimosas, Brussels, 7th December 1962, to his cousin, in French. Magritte thanks his cousin for her genealogical discoveries, noting that they do not definitively confirm their French origins, adding that he will be happy to come to her home on 30th December and remarking 'Le critique d'art ne sera pas decu, j'espere, de me recontrer et j'espere qu'il appartient a l'espece humaine susceptible de considerer ce qui n'est pas totalement indifferent' (Translation: 'The art critic will not be disappointed, I hope, to meet me and I hope that he belongs to the human species likely to consider what is not totally indifferent'), and further referring to an individual named Van Parys, commenting 'Si je dois dire ce que j'en pense, je dirais que V.P. est assez precieux pour animer une reunion, mais que si des problemes difficiles d'"hotellerie" se posent....' (Translation: 'If I have to say what I think, I would say that V.P. is precious enough to host a meeting, but if difficult “hotel” problems arise…..'). VG
