FAMOUS MEN: Selection of individually signed oblong 12mo cards by a wide variety of famous men, most with additional quotations, drawings or bars of music etc., including Lauritz Melchior (quotation, in German, from Tristan und Isolde, 1933), Willem Mengelberg (A.M.Q.S., April 1931), Eleazar de Carvalho (A.M.Q.S., November 1953), Frank Hawks (original drawing of a man raising a glass, inscribed 'Here's to the Epaule de Mouton, Happy landings. Frank Hawks', April 1931), Vice-Admiral Milton E. Miles, Felix de Nobel & Harry van Oss (A.M.Q.S., September 1938), Carlo Levi (charming original signed drawing, April 1954), Eduardo del Pueyo (A.M.Q.S.), Douglas Fairbanks Jr., Air Commodore Sir Nigel Norman, Stan Brenders (A.M.Q.S.) etc. All appear to have originally been signed during visits to the restaurant l'Epaule de Mouton in Brussels. Several of the cards are laid down alongside each other to a blue card, and others are individually mounted or show traces of former mounting to the versos. G to about VG, 12
