THALBERG IRVING: (1899-1936) American film producer. D.S., I Thalberg, two pages, 4to, Culver City, California, 28th May 1930, on the printed stationery of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios. The typescript document takes the form of a letter addressed to Samuel Goldwyn Inc., and confirms an agreement made between Goldwyn and M-G-M regarding the loan of the exclusive services of the cameraman George F. Barnes and stating, in part, 'The present term of Mr. Barnes employment with you is for a period of two (2) years commencing April 15, 1930. The term of his employment with us shall be deemed to have commenced on May 26, 1930 and shall continue for the full duration of the unexpired portion of the present term of his employment with you……We agree to pay you as compensation in full for Mr. Barnes services at the same rate as you are obliged to pay him, to-wit: Five Hundred Dollars ($500) per week for the balance of the first year…..and Five Hundred Fifty Dollars ($550) per week for the second year……We agree that you shall be entitled to the services of Mr. Barnes at such time or times as you may desire provided that you give us at least four (4) weeks' notice in writing….' Signed by Thalberg at the conclusion in his capacity as Vice President of the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Corporation and countersigned by Abraham Lehr (1880-1952) Vice President of Samuel Goldwyn Inc.
