BERNADOTTE JEAN BAPTISTE: (1763-1844) - BERNADOTTE JEAN BAPTISTE: (1763-1844) Marshal of France, Prince de Pontecorvo and King Charles XIV John of Sweden and Norway 1818-44. A good L.S., `J. Bernadotte ´, a bold ink signature with flourish, two pages, folio, Odense, Denmark, 4 th April 1808, to the Minister of war, in French. Bernadotte, in his capacity as Marshal of the Empire, Prince of Pontecorvo, sends a personal recommendation to the Minister of war, recommending Chief of Battalion Emion for his multiple and devoted services. Bernadotte states in part ` Les témoignages que j´ai reçu de la conduite honorable du Capitaine Emion, et l´estime dont il jouit dans le régiment où il sert, me déterminent à le recommander particulièrement à la bienveillance de S. E. le Ministre de la Guerre´ (Translation : ` The testimonies which I have received of the honorable conduct of Captain Emion, and the esteem which he is treated in the regiment in which he serves, determine me to recommend him particularly to the benevolence of H. E. the Minister of War´) To the verso, the letter to the minister includes a list of Captain Emion´s  services, including a wound after a pistol shot in St. Domingue. Also including to short recommendations signed to the border by the Colonel and Chief of brigade of the regiment. Small overall age wear with creasing to the upper part of the document, not affecting the signature. G
