Picquart played a key role in the Dreyfus Affair, in 1896 discovering (whilst chief of the army's intelligence section) that the memorandum used to convict Dreyfus had actually been the work of Major Esterhazy. After Emile Zola's trial Picquart was himself accused of forging the memorandum and he was subsequently arrested. A.L.S., G.
