SCHOELCHER VICTOR: (1804-1893) French Abolitionist Writer. A main figure and spokesman for the abolition of slavery. A very fine A.L.S., `V. Schoelcher´, one page, blue paper, 12mo, London, 10th October 1878, on his printed stationery, in French. The letter bears to the upper left corner an attractive embossed heading with his initials. Schoelcher expresses the confusion created regarding the date of convocation of the commission, and states `Je prends note de la convocation de la commission pour le 19, mais vous me dites qu´une autre convocation avait été déjà lancée pour le Samedi 12. Est-ce une erreur? Moi le Président je n´ai pas eu le moindre avis de cette convocation pour le 12. Dans le cas où ce ne serait pas une erreur, voulez-vous bien me dire si la séance du 12 a été contremandée et remise au 19?´ (Translation: “I take note of the convocation of the commission on the 19th, but you tell me that another convocation had already been issued for Saturday 12th. Is this a mistake? I, the President, did not have the slightest notice of this convocation for the 12th. In case it is not a mistake, would you kindly tell me if the 12th meeting was cancelled and postponed to the 19th?”) VG
