WOOD HENRY J.: (1869-1944) English conductor associated with London's annual series of promenade concerts known as the Proms. A.N.S., with his initials H. J. W., to the recto of the conductor's personal printed oblong 12mo Visiting Card, with his printed name to the centre, offering his compliments, and with his address and telephone number to the lower corners, n.p. (London?), n.d., writing, in full, 'Excellent - enjoyed them very much indeed'. Together with Adelina Patti (1843-1919) Italian opera singer. The personal printed oblong 12mo Visiting Card of Patti, unsigned, with black mourning borders and with her printed name ('Madame Adelina Patti Nicolini') to the centre and address at Craig-y-nos Castle in South Wales to the lower corner, featuring two lines of text in her hand, 'with sincere thanks for kind sympathy'. Heavy traces of former mounting to the verso of Wood's card and a few heavy creases and overall dust staining to Patti's card, G to about VG, 2
Patti's second husband was the French operatic tenor Ernesto Nicolini (1834-1898) whom she married in 1886. The marriage lasted until Nicolini's death in 1898.
