FOREL AUGUSTE: (1848-1931) Swiss myrmecologist, neuroanatomist, psychiatrist and eugenicist, noted for his investigations into the structure of the human brain and that of ants. A.L.S., Forel, to one side of a plain postcard, Burgholzli, 29th November 1891, to Dr. von Speyr, in German. Forel writes on the health of his family, and makes reference to the goddess of fortune, in full, 'Luckily, I and the children are doing much better. Martha in particular had caused us great concern because she had whooping cough so badly and with a fever. She vomited everything, didn't keep anything down for eight days and lost a lot of weight. But she is now recovering and so are the others. The youngest is completely isolated from the others. The Gods should take care of everything else and appoint blind Fortuna as the governing leader. She will rule with autocracy and automatism. Hope is my consolation. Otherwise, things are going wonderfully, and I would only wish we weren't dependent on Fortuna'.
