SECCHI ANGELO: (1818-1878) Italian astronomer and Catholic priest, a pioneer in astronomical spectroscopy and one of the first scientists to state authoritatively that the Sun is a star. A.L.S., P A Secchi, one page, 8vo, Rome, 9th September 1864, to a colleague ('Reverend in Christ, Father Professor'), in Italian. Secchi states that some time ago his correspondent had sent him 'una memoria salle variazioni orarie del Barometro' (Translation: 'a memorandum on the hourly variations of the Barometer') which he can't locate now although has to make an extract of the works on the subject and therefore asking for his correspondent's help in sending or locating another copy, or informing him of the fundamental idea.
