DELAMBRE JEAN-BAPTISTE: (1749-1822) French Mathematician and Astronomer. Director of the Paris Observatory. An excellent A.L.S., `Delambre´, one page, 4to, n.p., 8th April 1808, to Louis de Fontanes, Count of Fontanes, Grand Maitre of the Imperial University, in French. Scarce autograph letter by Delambre, stating in part `On m´a remis de votre part l´autorisation qui m´était necessaire pour toucher la partie d'arrérages due à l'université impériale. M. Baudard est en ce moment avec moi et nous allons concerter ensemble les moyens de remplir vos intentions sans délai…´ (“I have been given your authorization which was necessary for me to receive the portion of arrears due to the Imperial University. Mr. Baudard is currently with me and we are going to agree together the means to fulfil your intentions without delay…”) With address leaf, bearing a paper seal affixed. Small overall minor creasing, with a small area of paper loss to the address leaf as a result of the opening of the letter. G
