HOLZ ARNO: (1863-1929) German naturalist poet and dramatist. A.N.S., Arno Holz, in bold pencil, one page, small 8vo, Berlin, 1st October 1926, in German. The head of the page bears a question in the hand of a researcher, in French, 'Quelle est votre maxime de vie ou votre devise?' (Translation: 'What is your maxim of life or motto?'), beneath which Holz has provided his response, in full, 'I have been asked this question repeatedly and I am always amazed that there are people who are able to answer such a question, which is far too simple'.
