TURTLE ISLAND - PASSPORT: A well-known island which used to be a pirate hideaway during the seventeenth century. D.S., one page, oblong 4to, Turtle Island, 9th August 1795, in French. The partially printed document, bearing at the heading the French Republic motto, is signed with ink stamp of General Jean Cornu de la Poype (1758-1851), in his capacity as Commander of the north department of the Saint Domigue island, and countersigned by the military Commander. The document is a passport given to Jean Dupuy stating `Captain of the schooner Minerve, pass for three days, going to Môle to treat his own affairs..´ Edges irregularly trimmed, and overall creasing.
