MAIGNEN FRANÇOIS: (1754-1797) Member of the Vendée Convention. A lengthy A.L.S., Maignen, three pages, 4to, Paris, 8th April 1796, to Doctor Perreaud, in French. Maignen refers to the siege of Fontenay and states `At today´s date and considering how is the Vendée, I think that the first thing the administration should do is to inform the people of the countryside, and do so through respected people of these same areas..people are tired of so much fighting..some of these leaders have been captured now..´ Maignen further refers to the execution of laws in the near future, and mentions that two commissars have been sent to the Vendée to take in charge the control of the administration, and concludes saying `Time of peace is returning, and I hope we will reach it. Our finances improve too. The assignats are better accepted than ever..people are trying to get territories mandats to acquire the emigrants belongings..´ VG £100-150
