ROYAL LEGION: The Royal Legion was created in Paris in March 1815 by Colonel François Palasne de Champeaux (1775-1822) during the Hundred Days period. The Royal Legion was formed with former officers of the Condé armies, Knights of St Louis and Malta, volunteers, etc.. Four months later the Legion was suppressed and Palasne had to face a trial. A rare and attractive D.S., `de Champeaux´, one page, 9 x 7, Paris, 30th November 1815, in French. The partially printed document bears the heading of the Legion Royale, is signed by Palasne de Champeaux in his capacity as Colonel in Chief of the Royal Legion, and is a certificate given to Augustin Chedel, stating `Having served as squadron chief from 15th May 1815 to 25th July, in the mentioned Royal Legion which I created in Paris, during the absence of His Majesty..´ The document also bears a red wax seal.
