BITTRICH WILHELM: (1894-1979) German SS-Obergruppenfuhrer of World War II who commanded the 2nd SS Panzer Corps at the time of the Allies' Operation Market Garden. Knight's Cross winner with Oak Leaves and Swords. D.S., W. Bittrich, one page, 4to, n.p., n.d. (c. July 1932), in German. The partially printed document, completed almost entirely in Bittrich's hand, is headed Fuhrer-Fragebogen and is the questionnaire completed by Bittrich upon making his application to join the Schutzstaffel (SS), providing various personal details including his date of birth, occupation, Nazi Party membership number ('829700'), telephone number, as well as details of his military service in World War I and his award of both classes of the Iron Cross. Signed by Bittrich at the foot and also bearing an unidentified pencil countersignature alongside an official circular SS stamp. A couple of small areas of paper loss to the left edge, caused by filing holes, and a few small tears to the right edge, otherwise about VG
