MAUROIS ANDRE: (1885-1967) French Author. A fine and unusual signed and inscribed 7 x 9.5 photograph of Maurois, the image showing him seated in a full-length pose, with the Washington Capitol building to the background. The photograph was taken on 3rd October 1960 at the Congress Library of Washington. Signed `André Maurois´, and inscribed in blue fountain pen ink to the white lower border of the image, stating `Contrairement aux apparences, je ne suis pas candidat à la présidence des Etats-Unis, mais à l'amitié de Simone et Jacques…´ (“Contrary to appearances, I am not a candidate for the presidency of the United States, but for the friendship of Simone and Jacques...”) G to VG
