JOHN PAUL II: (1920-2005) Pope of the Catholic Church 1978-2005. Canonized in 2014. T.L.S., + Karol, as Cardinal, on two sides of his personal printed correspondence card featuring a colour religious design, Krakow, December 1973, to Stanislaw (Nowak, his school friend), in Polish. The cardinal writes, in part, 'May God reward you for your Christmas and New Year wishes, which I wholeheartedly reciprocate, by wishing you the very best Christmas and New Year celebrations and a blessed start to this Holy Year. My kind thoughts to both you and your family. I am pleased that I could fulfil your request, and send the blessing of the Holy Father - I was sure that it would be on time....I am expecting a collegial meeting on December 30th, so will take the opportunity to forward your greetings to all middle-school colleagues from Wadowice. I have hope in God that we shall have more frequent opportunities to meet and talk....' A vertical fold appears at the centre of the card.
