PUCCINI GIACOMO: (1858-1924) Italian Composer. A.L.S, G. Puccini, one page, 4to, Milan, n.d. [1906], to Carlo Clausetti, at Ricordi offices in Naples, in Italian. On his personal printed stationery with the heading of Via Verdi, 4, Milan, Puccini asks his friend `Dear Carluccio´, about the forthcoming performance of Madama Butterfly at Palermo, stating `In mezzo alle disgrazie tue e della tua regione, non dimenticar Butterfly a Palermo´ (“In the midst of your misfortune and the one of your region, do not forget Butterfly at Palermo”) and wishing his correspondent´s recovery, states `…spero che tu sia piu tranquillo…´ (“… I hope that you are calmer..”) Puccini further refers to a libretto for his future opera he is working on together with Gabriele D´Annunzio, stating `…noi siamo ancora alle prese per il libretto con d´A. Temo che non si posse cambiare…´ (“…we're still grappling with the libretto with d´A[nnunzio]. I fear that it cannot be changed …” Addressed to the verso in Puccini´s hand, postmarked and stamped. Small age wear with letter edges slightly trimmed. G to VG
Carlo Clausetti was an important Italian editor for Ricordi musical editors, and a close advisor to Puccini, He ran Ricordi´s offices in Naples.
Madama Butterfly (1904) is an opera in three acts by Puccini, an acclaimed work which keeps on being performed all over the world since its premiere.
