SAINT-SAENS CAMILLE: (1835-1921) French Composer. A.L.S., `C. Saint-Saëns´, three pages, 6.5 x 5.5, Paris, 16th October 1895, in French. Saint-Saëns states in part `Tout l´honneur est pour moi, cher confrère et ami, et j´ai eu trop de plaisir à … déranger (tu me pardonneras?)…´ (Translation: “All the honour is mine, dear colleague and friend, and I had too much pleasure in … disturbing (will you forgive me?”) Saint Saëns further says `…j´espère que d´autres que moi la jouerons aussi. Il était vraiment ennuyeux pour nous autres pianistes de l´abandonner entièrement aux violonistes; voila assez longtemps qu´ils sont seuls… J´ai pris pour introduction la “Course à l´abîme”…´ (Translation: “…I hope that others apart from me will also play it. It was really boring for us pianists to leave it entirely to the violinists; they have been alone long enough… I took for the introduction the `Race to the Abyss´”) Sold to the centre. G
