BAKER JOSEPHINE: (1906-1975) American-born French entertainer. T.L.S., Josephine Baker, one page, 4to, Paris, 8th August 1959, to Monsieur Triboulet at the Ministere des Anciens Combattants (Ministry of Veterans and Victims of War), in French. Baker states that she has received her correspondent's kind letter 'et je ne trouve pas de paroles pour exprimer ma joie quand je pense que vous vous etes derange pour venir me voir a l'Olympia' (Translation: 'and I can't find words to express my joy when I think that you bothered to come and see me at the Olympia'), further adding 'Oui, les annees ont passe mais moi aussi je constate que les amis sont comme le bon vin, “ils s'ameliorent en vieillissant”' (Translation: 'Yes, the years have passed but I too can see that friends are like good wine, “they get better with age”'). In concluding Baker apologises for having sent a typed letter, explaining that her handwriting is illegible. Some light creasing and a couple of very minor, small stains, about VG
