MAXIMILIAN I OF MEXICO: (1832-1867) Emperor of Mexico 1864-67. Brother of the Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph I. Sentenced to death and executed. An interesting L.S., Ferdinand Maxim, one page, folio, Trieste, 26th April 1858, to Franceschinis, in German. Maximilian, in his capacity as commander in chief of the Austrian navy, states `I reported to Major Public Auditor Baron Titus Karger, who travelled to Venice, about the important decisions I have taken´ further saying `I advised him to instruct you in person. This message should be as inconspicuous as possible, so it would be desirable that you visit him accidentally´ A letter of good content by Maximilian I who will soon be approached by Mexican monarchists offering him to become the Emperor of Mexico.
