The document fully written and dated in Verlaine´s hand is a receipt, on Leon Vanier´s printed stationery, stating ` Received from Mr. Vanier Editor, the sum of fifty francs, fourth and last payment as copyright for “Les Mémoires d´un Veuf” according to agreement ´. Bearing to the lower left corner a tax stamp with annotation in the hand of Verlaine, cancelling the debt ` Cancelled on 13 th May 1886, P.
