TERESA MOTHER: (1910-1997) Albanian Roman Catholic Nun, Nobel Peace Prize winner, 1979 & THATCHER MA

TERESA MOTHER: (1910-1997) Albanian Roman Catholic Nun, Nobel Peace Prize winner, 1979 & THATCHER MARGARET (1925-2013) British Prime Minister 1979-90. An exceptional signed 7 x 10 photograph by both Mother Teresa and Margaret Thatcher individually, the image depicting the two ladies standing in full-length poses together within 10 Downing Street on 13th April 1988. Photograph by Times Newspapers Ltd and bearing their credit stamp to the verso. Signed ('God bless you, M Teresa MC') in bold black ink by Mother Teresa and signed ('With all kind thoughts, Margaret Thatcher') in black ink by Thatcher, both to largely clear areas of the image. Accompanied by a T.L.S., John Whittingdale, by Thatcher's Political Secretary (and now a Member of Parliament), one page, 8vo, n.p. (London), 24th June 1991, thanking his correspondent on behalf of Thatcher for their letter and continuing 'Mrs Thatcher receives an enormous number of requests for her signature and it is simply not possible for her to accede to them all…..she feels it would be wrong to provide photographs unless they are for personal acquaintances. However, since Mother Teresa has signed the photograph she felt she would make an exception to the rule and I therefore have pleasure in returning the photograph duly signed'. An extremely rare signed photograph by two of the most famous, and perhaps controversial, female figures of the 20th century. EX, 2

Mother Teresa visited London in April 1988 and met with Margaret Thatcher to express the need for urgent help for London's homeless. On 14th April, the day following their meeting, Thatcher told the House of Commons 'every person in this House has the greatest respect and affection for Mother Teresa and for the work that she does. Even though we might disagree with her on one or two things, we still admire and respect her views'.
