VERDI GIUSEPPE: (1813-1901) Italian Composer. A very fine A.L.S., G. Verdi, one page, 8vo, Genoa, 16th February 1860, to his nephew Signore Barone Genovese, Naples, in Italian. Verdi states in part `Cesarino gave me your letter, which is most welcome. I'm not going to try to respond to the nice and kind words you say to me. I will limit myself to say that I admire you´ Verdi further refers to one of his compositions, saying `Here is the Romanza. Quite late…´ Further Verdi sends his regards on behalf of his wife Giuseppina Strepponi, having married her only six months earlier. With address leaf in Verdi´s hand, bearing a red wax seal and a small area of paper loss as a result of the letter opening. Very small overall age wear and creasing, otherwise G to VG
Verdi, when referring to the Romanza, may refer to a new version composed for his opera Un Ballo in Maschera.
