A very good content A.L.S., `François´, two pages, light paper, 4to, 25<sup>th</sup> February 1968, on his personal printed stationery, to Alex, in French. A bold black ink autograph letter, Truffaut referring first to his English speaking, and stating in part `Mon silence ne signifie pas que je n´ai pas aimé ton film. Je ne l´ai pas encore vu car lorsqu´il a commence, je commençais moi aussi un long stage pour apprendre l´anglais 7 heures par jour. Je n´ai pas vu un spectacle depuis 2 mois et je susi éreinté. Le stage vient de se terminer (et je ne sais toujours pas l´anglais!)´ (“My silence does not mean that I did not like your film. I haven't seen it yet because when it started, I was also starting a long course to learn English 7 hours a day. I haven´t seen a show for 2 months and I´m exhausted. The internship course has just ended (and I still don't know English!)”) Truffaut further refers to his correspondent´s film, and states `C´est un très grand succès don't je me réjouis car je savais que tu avais un rendez-vous avec la chance un de ces jours…On va surement te donner carte blanche pendant un bon moment et tu cesseras d´être (selon moi) le seul metteur en scene français estimé au-dessous de sa valeur réelle! Tu vois que ton succès me rend lyrique…´ (“It is a very big success which I am delighted of because I knew that you had a date with luck one of these days… They will most probably give you carte blanche for a while and you will cease to be (according to me) the only French director estimated below his real value!
