[TOLSTOY LEO]: (1828-1910) Russian Novelist. Regarded as one of the greatest authors of all time. Vintage unsigned cabinet photograph by Scherer & Nabholz of Moscow, the image showing Tolstoy seated in a well-known three quarter length pose, wearing his habitual peasant clothing. Photographer´s imprint to the lower mount and also to the verso in Cyrillic ''Photographers of His Imperial Majesty - By the Grace of God, Alexander III Emperor and Sovereign of all the Russias, Alexander II Emperor and Sovereign of all Russias. Bolshaya Dmitrovka opposite Kupechesky, Pustoshkina house, Moscow'', with the printed date 1897. Very small overall, minor age wear, with upper corners very slightly damaged, and extremely small trace of former mounting to the verso. About VG £300-400
