DOYLE ARTHUR CONAN: (1859-1930) Scottish Author, creator of Sherlock Holmes. A.L.S., A Conan Doyle, one page, 8vo, Windlesham, Crowborough, Sussex, 23rd August 1914, to a gentleman. Doyle states that he thinks Wells' idea of the German commercial firms is excellent, remarking 'They may very well contribute as firms not as individuals', and adding that he has written to two of them, Albert Stern and Adolph Tuck, and suggesting 'When the slip is printed you might send specimens to them'. Doyle further writes 'I don't like the ''rauberisch''. An understatement is always better than an overstatement' and also suggests some other alterations to a German text, 'I am sure it is more effective'. VG £800-1000
