TWAIN MARK: (1835-1910) American Writer. Born Samuel Langhorne Clemens, Mark Twain being his pen name, and best known for his novel The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1876). A.L.S., Samuel, two pages, 8vo, a hotel close to Pittsburgh, 11h30 Sunday morning, n.d., to his wife. Twain writes from `Hotel - car 300 miles west of Philadelphia´ and states `This is a mean place to write,… so I will only attempt a line. Shall telegraph you from Pittsburg which we are approaching. Dan says the Serap Book is booming..´ further saying `This is a very nice car. Slept pretty well last night and had a pretty good breakfast this morning. I do hope you slept well, but am afraid you didn´t. You must have Emily Perkins or some other quiet body with you. Well. I love you, love you, darling…´ Written in pencil.
