FONCK RENÉ: (1894- 1953) French Aviator, the top Allied Fighter Ace of World War I. An extremely rare vintage signed and inscribed sepia 6.5 x 4.5 photograph `R.Fonck´, the image depicting the fighter ace outdoors, standing in a full length pose wearing his uniform and medals, before his airplane. Signed and inscribed in black fountain pen ink to a light area of the image, stating `To my friend Coudumet. Souvenir of a great friendship.´ in French. Also dated November 1918 in his hand. Signed images of Fonck are rare and desirable. Small overall, minor age wear, extremely small creasing and two pinholes to corners not affecting the text or signature. G £600-900 The present photograph was signed by Fonck during the Armistice celebration in November 1918, and is inscribed to a World War I soldier and friend.
