PUCCINI GIACOMO: (1858-1924) Italian Composer. An excellent A.L.S, Giacomo, one page, 4to, Milan, 20th June 1912, on his printed personal stationery at Via Verdi, 4, Milano, to his friend Sybil Seligman, in Italian. Puccini states in part `My dear Sybil, I leave now and am going to Torre, I will travel by sea from Varese to Viareggio on my yacht. I will not visit London this year...´ further saying `Thank you for the theatrical news. When time will come, write to me and tell me about Manon´s performance and further Fanciulla´s one.´ Puccini adds beneath the date at the base of the letter an Italian expression `Caldo Cane!´ referring to the high temperatures and heat. Post stamped to the verso and addressed in his own hand. Edges slightly irregularly trimmed due to the opening of the letter, otherwise VG £800-1200 Puccini refers to his operas Manon Lescaut (1893), and La Fanciulla del West (1910) which were going to be performed in London in 1912.
