ISABELLA I OF CASTILE: (1451-1504) Queen of Castile 1474-1504. Catholic Monarch who ruled jointly with her husband Ferdinand II of Aragon as The Catholic Monarchs 1475-1504. They are recognized for laying the foundations for the political unification of Spain, and also for completing the Reconquista as well as their support and financing of Christopher Columbus´ voyage of 1492 which led to the opening of the New World. An exceptional manuscript letter, one page, oblong 4to, dated in Toledo, Castile, 28th June 1502, signed by the Queen `Yo la Reyna´ (''I the Queen''), to Sancho de Paredes, in old Castilian. The document bears to the heading the written text `The Queen´, and is an order given by the Queen to his Chamberlain, instructing him to give a Royal present to a Portuguese citizen, stating in part `Sancho de Paredes, yo os mando que deis a Duarte Lopez Portugués, diez varas de terciopelo verde, y tres varas de satén carmesí…´ (“Sancho de Paredes, I order you to give to Duarte López, Portuguese, ten rods of green velvet, and three rods of crimson satin...”) The document further reports that a receipt is to be obtained and that the matter will have to be entered into the books. Countersigned below the Queens´s signature by her secretary `By the Queen´s mandate´ Miguel Perez de Almazan. Also bearing at the base of the document a four lines receipt signed by the receiver of the present Duarte Lopez. Also bearing to the verso an extensive note referring to the items offered. Very small overall minor age wear, with two very neat slits due to the opening of the letter, only very slightly affecting the text and signature, otherwise in very fine condition. G to VG
