Rostand, in his usual clean and attractive fountain pen ink writing, and referring to his correspondent as ` Dear Poet and friend ´, states in part ` Je reviens de voyage et je trouve votre délicieuse letter qui me ravit et me désole a la fois. Je suis fier et heureux de voir que vous aimez assez ma Princesse Lointaine pour désirer la parer de votre exquise musique et, en meme temps, j´ai le chagrín d´etre obligé de vous refuser ce que bous me demandez car pareille demande m´a déja été faite par plusieurs musiciens amis auxquels j´ai refusé…´ (”I have just returned from a trip and I find your very kind letter which delights me and saddens me at the same time.
