KUPKA FRANTISEK: (1871-1957) Czech painter and graphic artist. Book signed and inscribed, being a softcover edition of Frank Kupka by Louis Arnould Gremilly, published by Jacques Povolozky & Co., Paris, 1922, being number 274 from a limited edition of 500, signed and inscribed by Krupka in blue fountain pen ink to the recto of the frontispiece portrait and dated 11th February 1950 and in his hand, and additionally signed and inscribed above by Louis Arnould Gremilly, adding the date Paris, 21st January 1950 in his hand. Bound in the original paper wrappers with a decorative front cover printed in blue, red and black, the French text ('L'Orphisme at les Tentatives de F. Kupka') interspersed with various woodcuts and other illustrations, and also including a bibliography and various commentaries on Kupka's works. With a couple of loosely inserted pieces of printed ephemera relating to Kupka. Some light overall age wear, minor foxing and some light age toning and small tears to the edges of the wrappers, G
The first monograph devoted to Kupka and published a year after his first solo exhibition in Paris.
Jacques Povolozky (1881-1945) also owned the gallery La Cible, located on Rue Bonaparte in Paris.
