RUTHERFORD MARGARET: (1892-1972) English actress, Academy Award winner. A.L.S., Margaret Rutherford, two pages, 4to, The Apollo Theatre, London (although on the printed stationery of Ealing Studios), 13^th September 1948, to Mrs. Jack Smith. Rutherford states that she does indeed remember the Smith family and continues 'My Husband, Stringer Davis, & I are so glad to hear news of you & we shall be very pleased to join you for tea on Sept. 27^th. We suggest that we meet you at the Stage Door here at 5 o'clock, if you can manage that & we will take you to a little Soho café where they look after us well'. Accompanied by the original envelope hand addressed by Rutherford. Some very light, minor age wear, otherwise VG

 

At the time of the present letter Rutherford was appearing at the Apollo Theatre in The Happiest Days of Your Life in the role of Miss Evelyn Whitchurch, the officious headmistress of St Swithins School for Girls.
