PALMERSTON VISCOUNT: (1784-1865) British Prime Minister 1855-58, 1859-65. A.L.S., Palmerston, one page, 8vo, Stanhope Street, [London], 22nd December 1830, to 'My dear Juliana'. Palmerston sends his correspondent the note (no longer present) that she wished for and continues to remark 'I have been ever since my appointment like a man who has plumped into a Mill Race, scarcely able by all his kicking & plunging to keep his nose above water'. With blank integral leaf. Some light age wear, otherwise VG On 22nd November 1830, exactly one month before writing the present letter, Palmerston had been appointed Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
