[BOUGUEREAU WILLIAM-ADOLPHE]: (1825-1905) French Academic Painter. GARDNER ELIZABETH JANE (1837-1922) American Academic and Salon Painter, the paramour and second wife of Bouguereau. A.L.S., Wm Bouguereau, par E. G. B., on behalf of her husband, one page, 8vo, Rue Notre-Dame des Champs, Paris, 12th April 1902, to a friend, on blind embossed monogrammed mourning stationery, in French. The letter states that the response from London is not favourable and that Mr. Tooth has no pictures available, further explaining that he absolutely wants to keep the ones he has as the season of sales is approaching. About EX Arthur Tooth & Sons, the London art gallery founded in 1842 by Charles Tooth (1788-1868) and which remained in the family until its closure in the 1970s.
