King George III acknowledges the receipt of his correspondent's communication announcing the news of the birth of a Princess whom the Queen, his spouse, with the help of divine providence, has brought into the world and continues to send his good wishes for the happiness of the newly born Princess and for the prosperity of the King's entire family. Countersigned at the foot by William Nassau de Zuylestein (1717-1781) 4th Earl of Rochford. British Courtier, Diplomat and Statesman, Secretary of State for the Southern Department 1770-75. With integral address leaf with a blind embossed paper seal affixed (small area of paper loss at the base of the page, caused by the original breaking of the seal). An attractive letter featuring an elegant example of King George III's signature. The Princess was born on 6th June 1772 and later served as the last Holy Roman Empress (1792-1806) and the first Empress of Austria (1804-07).King George III's reign, longer than that of any British monarch before him, was marked by a series of military conflicts involving his kingdoms. Great Britain defeated France in the Seven Years' War, becoming the dominant European power in North America and India. However, many of Britain's American colonies were soon lost in the American War of Independence. Further wars against revolutionary and Napoleonic France from 1793 concluded in the defeat of Napoleon Bonaparte at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815.
