FEODOROVNA ALEXANDRA: (1798-1860) Princess Charlotte of Prussia. Empress Consort of Russia 1825-55, wife of Emperor Nicholas I and mother of future Emperor Alexander II. A.L.S., A[lexandra], two pages, 12mo, n.p., n.d. [1825-6], to Countess Orloff-Tchesmensky, in French. The Empress writes to her correspondent on a black bordered mourning paper stating `Tell me dear Countess if you still feel indisposed, and if this has prevented you to pay tribute to our Angel in his tomb? You might know that I had the inexpressible joy of receiving communion in the same chapel where the coffin was .´ and further continues saying `I have prayed to God to hallow me against the sorrow of this poor world, and I like to believe that the Angel watches over me from high in heaven as he was doing on earth .´ and concludes with `..I would like to meet you again so much once all these sad days finish..´. An excellent content letter, written short after Tsar Alexander I death. With integral addressee leaf. Small corner paper loss to the last page due to the opening of the seal. VG
