LOUIS PHILIPPE I: (1773-1850) King of France 1830-48. A.L.S., L. P. D´Orléans, one page, 4to, Richmond, 22nd May 1815, to Charles Stuart. A boldly written letter by the future King of the French, stating `Dear Sir Charles, Permit me to send under your cover a letter which I am very anxious to know safely delivered into Count Lally´s hands, as I have some reason to suspect the other modes of-..´ The letter bears at the heading a blind embossed seal from Dobbs & Pratt London also as paper watermark. Charles Stuart (1779-1845) British Diplomat, Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary to Portugal and Brazil 1810-14, British Ambassador to France 1815-24, 1828-30 and British Ambassador to Russia 1841-44. Louis Philippe flee France during the period of the French Revolution in order to avoid imprisonment and execution. He spent 21 years in exile, mostly in England, after he left France in 1793.
