DUMAS ALEXANDRE: Père (1802-1870) French Writer whose works include The Three Musketeers. A.L.S., A. Dumas, one page, oblong small 4to, n.p., [Paris], n.d., [July 1843], to Monsieur Porcher, in French. Dumas writes to his editor requesting urgently and once again money, and states `My dear Porcher, I absolutely need two hundred francs this morning, give them to me. Yours A. Dumas.´ Bearing to the right bottom corner an annotation in the hand of the person who collected the sum on behalf of Dumas, acknowledging receipt, and dated in Paris, 21st July 1843. G Jean Baptiste Porcher (1792-1864) French former theatre employee and theatrical agent who created an agency which used to buy copyrights to their authors and ticket passes, later reselling them at the entrance doors of theatres. He very often was advancing money to Dumas and sometimes keeping some manuscripts in pledge. Dumas wrote about him `The man in Paris who has rendered more services to me.'
